What These Words Mean
Justice
Hou sees a sense of justice as something he already values in himself. When conflict happens around him, he tends to feel that he should step in rather than simply watch.
Insight
Hou hopes to become someone who can look beyond the surface of a situation and understand what is really happening.
Insight, for him, is not only about being observant. It is also about being able to make thoughtful judgments, recognize what matters, and see possibilities that may not be immediately obvious.
Empathy
Hou also hopes to become someone who can understand and support other people more deeply.
When imagining himself in another world or story, he said he would want to be a superhero who is able to help more people. This desire to be useful to others gives empathy a practical meaning in his future self.
What Appears in the Artwork
Hou’s collage brings together a piano, a globe, and a path leading upward.
The piano connects to something he has worked toward personally. He mentioned completing Grade 7 piano as one of the more important things he accomplished in the first half of the year.
The globe reflects his broader interest in the world around him, including the idea of being a responsible global citizen and caring about the environment.
The upward path gives the work a sense of progress and continued growth, while the globe also connects to his hope of one day seeing the sea and experiencing more of the world.
His Future Self
For Hou, becoming means developing the judgment to understand what is happening, the courage to stand up for what feels right, and the empathy to use those qualities in service of others.
